BaZi 八字, translating as “Eight Characters” is an ancient system of divination rooted in the principles of Chinese astrology. In this system, our natal chart is composed of Four Pillars — each containing one Heavenly Stem and one Earthly Branch — together forming the eight characters that reflect the energetic blueprint of our incarnation.

A pillar represents the union of Heaven and Earth expressed through time (year, month, day, and hour) following the ancient Ganzhi 干支 cyclical system of sixty archetypal combinations.

When we unify these Four Pillars of Birth, we obtain a map of our inner landscape — revealing the elemental composition and archetypal patterns that shape the flow of our life.

Through the lens of BaZi 八字, we begin to perceive the movement of internal qi, our life force — how it flows, where it stagnates, and how our inherent strengths can nourish our weaknesses, becoming the very medicine of our incarnation.

By studying a BaZi chart, we illuminate its elemental nature and energetic imprint — where the life force is vibrant and fluid, and where it seeks integration. We explore both the visible and the unseen dimensions of the self, allowing what lies in shadow to emerge into awareness.

This ancient astrological language offers profound insight into the unfolding of our lives — the influence of different phases, the legacy of our ancestors, the imprint of our upbringing, and the dynamic expressions of yin and yang within our being. It reveals what inspires our sense of ambition, creativity, responsibility, and service; how we love, relate, and transform; and how our challenges and conflicts have the potential to be transmuted into wisdom.

BaZi also teaches us about the auspiciousness of timing, reminding us that each moment holds unique strengths and opportunities — if we remain open and receptive to them.

It is my heartfelt wish that this course and intimate journey of self-cultivation through the archetypal language of Nature help you recognize how Nature continuously moves through you, as you — sustaining the ceaseless dance of life.

CHAPTER 1 : In this chapter, we step into the realm of Chinese Metaphysics 玄学 and uncover the foundations of BaZi 八字. We explore the structure and significance of the Four Pillars and the Eight Characters, and journey through the layers that form the inner landscape of the self, revealing the subtle energies that shape who we are and how we move through life.

CHAPTER 2 : In this chapter, we journey into the archetypal nature of the ten Day Masters 日主, attuning to their essence, uncovering their core strengths and shadows, and tracing the paths of growth that guide their living essence. Each Day Master offers a unique expression of energy, illuminating the ways we move, act, and evolve within the experience of our incarnation.

CHAPTER 3 : In this chapter, we explore the relationship between the heart of the landscape and all that dwells within it. We journey through the five structures — the living qualities and expressions of the elements — and witness how they nourish, create, forge, and shape the very essence of our being, revealing the subtle interplay that animates our inner and outer worlds.

CHAPTER 4 : In this chapter, we journey through the myths of the Great Race, entering the realm of the twelve Earthly Branches — the archetypes of the Chinese zodiac animals. We explore their essence, strengths, shadows, paths of growth, and the living nature they bring to our understanding of life.

CHAPTER 5 : In this chapter, we journey into the dance of combinations and clashes, a central theme in the BaZi system. Through this lens, we witness the subtle dynamics and interplay between all aspects of a chart, uncovering how energies meet, harmonize, or challenge one another — shaping the living rhythm of destiny.

CHAPTER 6 : In this chapter, we enter the realm of the ten Transformational Stars, the ten archetypal profiles that illuminate our ways of being : Supporter, Philosopher, Director, Visionary, Artist, Performer, Diplomat, Warrior, Ally, and Leader. Each archetypal profile reveals a unique facet of character and potential, guiding us to understand our strengths, challenges, and the roles we play in the unfolding journey of life.

CHAPTER 7 : In this chapter, we explore the four Ming Gong pillars — Karma, Conception, Body, and Aura — alongside the Dayun pillar of unfolding influence. Together, these pillars are revealing how past lives, innate nature, somatic expression, and the currents of time guide our journey through life.

CHAPTER 8 : In this chapter, we enter the mysterious and illuminating realm of the Symbolic Stars 神杀 — subtle energies that influence our character, relationships, and life patterns. We explore how each star carries its own essence, guiding or challenging us in unique ways, and learn to read their presence in the chart as expressions of opportunity, caution, and transformation.

CHAPTER 9 : In this chapter, we explore NaYin 纳音, the hidden, harmonizing songs of the pillars, delve into the twelve qi phases 十二长生, and explore rituals to nurture the Five Spirits, bringing harmony and balance to the inner landscape.

CHAPTER 10 : In this chapter, we infuse the essence of the ten Day Master ; this time through a meditative journey accompanied by the resonant tones of five elemental guqin melodies.

We return to the layered terrain of the inner landscape, diving into a full review of chart analysis steps, supported by a practical template showcasing my personal style of taking reading notes.

In addition, we explore how to calculate the Ming Gua 命卦, a special number in Chinese metaphysics that represents our personal energy direction, mainly used in Feng Shui.
